CLIENTS SERVED: Low-income older adults and homeowners with disabilities
DESCRIPTION: Faith in Action of Oakland County (FIAOC) is a nonprofit organization that helps low-income older adults and individuals with disabilities remain safe and independent in their homes. Through its Mission Possible initiative, the organization partners with local construction companies, skilled tradespeople, and community volunteers to complete essential home safety repairs and accessibility improvements. Participating contractors donate their labor, while FIAOC covers the cost of materials.
PROGRAMS/SERVICES:
- Mission Possible Home Repair Program: Coordinates free safety-related home repairs for eligible low-income older adults and homeowners with disabilities, using volunteer contractors and donated labor.
- Accessibility Modifications: Constructs wheelchair ramps and addresses other accessibility barriers that affect safe entry, exit, and mobility around the home.
- Home Safety Repairs: Provides repairs to correct safety hazards and help residents remain in their homes. Specific repairs depend on the homeowner’s needs and participating contractors’ capabilities.
- Community Volunteer Partnerships: Works with construction companies, local businesses, and volunteers to provide labor and other assistance for home repair projects.
RAMPS:
- Types: Residential wheelchair accessibility ramps constructed to provide safe access to and from the home. Contact the organization for materials and ramp configurations.
- Availability: For low-income older adults and homeowners with disabilities in Oakland County. Construction depends on participating contractors, volunteers, and available program resources.
- Cost: Free for eligible homeowners. Participating contractors donate labor, and Faith in Action of Oakland County covers the cost of construction materials.
