SERVICE AREA: Throughout Michigan; specific programs have different service areas and eligibility requirements. MCHS reported serving 64 of Michigan’s 83 counties in 2024.

CLIENTS SERVED: Children, youth, families, older adults, individuals with disabilities, young parents, people experiencing homelessness, and other individuals needing supportive services. Eligibility varies by program.

MCHS Family of Services is a statewide human-services organization providing programs designed to create safer, more stable futures for children, families, and older adults. Its services include child welfare, housing, community services, mental health, residential treatment, and education.

SERVICES & PROGRAMS:

• Child Welfare: Foster care, adoption, and other services supporting children and families affected by trauma, abuse, and neglect.
• Housing & Transitional Living: Housing and supportive services for youth and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability, including programs for young parents and young adults transitioning from foster care.
• Mental Health: Mental-health and behavioral-health services for children, youth, and families. MCHS is also developing a Center for Pediatric Health and Wellness in Detroit to provide behavioral and physical health services for children and families.
• Senior Programs: Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs provide opportunities for older adults to mentor children, volunteer, and receive social connection and companionship.
• Child Abuse Prevention & Family Support: Parenting support and an Infant Resource Center providing young parents and families with diapers, mentoring, and other essential resources.
• Residential Treatment: Structured residential care, therapy, case management, and other support for children and youth who need intensive services.
• Education: Fostering Leadership Academy, a public charter school providing personalized education focused on leadership, academic achievement, and personal growth.
• The Fowler Center: Accessible summer and weekend respite camps, equestrian programs, and travel adventures for people of all ages and abilities.
• Services for Unaccompanied Children: Support for refugee children, including home studies, case management, language and legal support, and long-term foster care.
