MACOMB COUNTY MEALS ON WHEELS
Meals on Wheels is designed for older adults who are homebound and no longer prepare meals for themselves. Hot meals are locally prepared fresh on a daily basis and meet the recommended dietary guidelines. Through the program, a volunteer delivers a meal directly to the seniors’ door. Volunteers and paid drivers complete a background check and receive training.
The program is able to provide a chilled dinner meal, delivered at the same time, for a limited number of participants. We also provide shelf stable (canned and packaged food items) meals one to two times per year, in the event of unplanned closures.
This program is a daily check in, Monday through Friday: If an individual is not home for their scheduled meal, we will attempt to contact them and their emergency contacts to make sure they are okay. It’s a smile and brief conversation with our volunteers. This provides families and caregivers with reassurance that their loved one is receiving a well-balanced meal.
Who is eligible? Individuals at least 60 years of age / A Macomb County resident / The individual must be homebound (unable to leave their home without assistance) / The individual must be unable to prepare full meals / Regardless of income
We deliver Holiday Meals:
Holiday meals are available for seniors who would be otherwise home alone on the holiday. A special hot lunch is freshly prepared that day, including many traditional favorites. Meal delivery is available for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Please call the Office of Senior Services at 586-469-5228 if interested in applying for this program. Our team will complete an application over the phone and provide a start date.
