STATUS: Active. Macomb Community Action provides a broad range of assistance to income-eligible Macomb County residents, including housing, weatherization, utility, water, food, transportation, and financial assistance.

SERVICE AREA: Macomb County, but the cities of Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, Roseville, and Warren have their own Housing Rehabilitation programs. The city of Roseville is no longer taking applications for their Housing Rehabilitation program.

CLIENTS SERVED: Income-eligible Macomb County residents and households. Specific programs have their own eligibility requirements.

DESCRIPTION: Macomb Community Action is Macomb County’s community action agency, helping low-income residents address housing, utility, water, food, transportation, and other basic needs.

SERVICES / PROGRAMS:

• Housing Rehabilitation Program: Provides assistance to eligible low- to moderate-income homeowners for significant home repairs needed to achieve safe and sanitary housing. The current program limit is $48,000, provided as a zero-interest deferred-payment loan. Eligible repairs can include plumbing, roofing, electrical work, structural repairs, energy-efficiency improvements, and accessibility modifications.
• Weatherization Assistance Program: Provides energy-saving improvements to eligible Macomb County homes to reduce energy use and improve efficiency. A home energy assessment determines which improvements are appropriate.
• Water Residential Assistance Program (WRAP): Helps eligible households with past-due water bills, provides a monthly credit toward future bills, water-saving kits, and assistance with plumbing repairs.
• Utility Assistance: Provides assistance to eligible residents facing shutoff of electric, natural gas, or deliverable-fuel service.
• Emergency Housing Assistance: May assist eligible residents with rent, mortgage, eviction, homelessness, and foreclosure-related needs.
• Community Action Centers: Provide intake, referrals, and assistance with multiple programs for income-eligible residents.

HOW TO APPLY: Requirements and application procedures vary by program.
