Self-Help Legal Center
Oak Park Public Library Self-Help Legal Center provides access to two computers, a printer and scanner, in a semi-private location of the library for the purpose of legal-related work and research.
The center is available on a first-come first-serve basis for self-guided use. Please call to make an appointment if staff assistance will be required: 248-691-7480 ext. 3
Staff can:
-Assist with technology questions
-Help read or access the self-help website information
-Assist with creating an email to facilitate uploading legal documents
-Assist with accessing zoom to attend court
Staff cannot:
-Advise on how to complete legal forms
-Create legal documents
-Advise on legal procedures
Self-help legal center resources: Michigan Self Help Legal Center
The Self-Help Legal Center was sponsored through a grant from The Michigan Justice for All Commission (Commission), which was created by the Michigan Supreme Court to ensure that everyone in Michigan is able to access legal services when needed. The Commission is working with the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) to expand and enhance effective, efficient, and sustainable self-help center services across Michigan.
Printing in the legal center:
$0.15 each black & white page
$0.50 each color page
Scanning (and emailing) documents can be done free of charge / Faxing services are $1.00 per page.
