The Detroit ID Card program can help break barriers for the unhoused and segments of the immigrant population.
All you need is a utility bill or rental agreement or something that verifies your identity
If you’re unhoused but belong to a shelter, the shelter can provide proof of address
The Detroit ID card program is connected to three credit unions, so people can open accounts. Spanish and other translation services are also available.
How to get a Detroit I.D.:
The Detroit I.D. is for ALL Detroiters, including returning citizens, homeless individuals, and immigrants
regardless of immigration status.
Use it to:
1. Access city services: interact with the Detroit Police Department and Detroit Public Schools
2. Open utility accounts with DTE and Detroit Water and Sewerage Dept.
3. Open a checking or savings account with One Detroit Credit Union
4. Receive discounts at dozens of local businesses and cultural activities across Detroit
