PROVIDING VETERANS SUPPORT SERVICES IN KENTUCKY, TENNESSEE, WEST VIRGINIA, AND CLARK AND FLOYD COUNTIES IN INDIANA.
Volunteers of America’s SSVF programs, funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, provides supportive services to low-income veteran families living in or transitioning to permanent housing. These programs provide eligible veteran families with outreach, case management, and assistance in obtaining VA and other benefits, which may include: health care services, daily living services, personal financial planning services, transportation services, fiduciary and payee services, legal services, child care services, and housing counseling services. In addition, programs may also provide time-limited payments to third parties (e.g., landlords, utility companies, moving companies, and licensed child care providers) if these payments help veteran families stay in or acquire permanent housing on a sustainable basis.
To become an SSVF participant the following conditions must be met:
A member of a veteran family: either a veteran, a member of a family in which the head of household is a veteran, or the spouse of the head of household is a veteran
Very low-income: household income cannot exceed 50 percent of area median income
Occupy permanent housing in one of three categories:
Is residing in permanent housing
Is homeless and is scheduled to become a resident of permanent housing within 90 days
Has exited permanent housing within the previous 90 days to seek alternative low-income housing
