STATUS: Activates following a disaster when invited by the affected community and a trained Emergency Response Team is available to respond.
SERVICE AREA: Any communities in the state of Michigan affected by major disasters where After the Storm has an active or recent recovery project.
CLIENTS SERVED: Michigan individuals and households affected by disasters such as floods, tornadoes, and severe storms, with particular attention to households experiencing significant unmet recovery needs.
DESCRIPTION: After the Storm provides long-term disaster recovery and personalized disaster case management. Case managers work one-on-one with disaster survivors to assess their needs, develop recovery plans, identify available financial assistance and resources, and coordinate services to help households rebuild and regain stability.
PROGRAMS/SERVICES:
- Disaster Case Management: One-on-one assistance to assess needs, develop recovery goals, and guide households through the recovery process.
- Financial Assistance Navigation: Helps survivors identify and apply for FEMA, grants, loans, and other sources of disaster-recovery funding.
- Home Repair & Rebuilding: Helps households identify repair needs, locate resources, and coordinate assistance for disaster-damaged homes.
- Basic Needs & Household Support: Helps connect survivors with food, shelter, utilities, furnishings, and other essential resources.
- Resource Coordination: Connects households with local nonprofits, government agencies, legal assistance, housing resources, and other recovery services.
- Trauma & Wellness Support: Helps survivors connect with mental-health, trauma, and wellness resources following a disaster.
- Emergency Response & Recovery Teams: Works with trained community teams and volunteers to support disaster response and recovery efforts.
