NOTE:
Please keep in mind that if a parent refuses to pay child support OR works “under the table”, etc. to avoid paying as long as possible, there is a way
the responsible parent can still collect on this debt! Please keep the court support letter CURRENT and you will be able to collect the amount owed
when that parent who owes the support, collects a government check eventually. That includes disability pay, SSI, SSD, or even their retirement
Social Security payments! Just go to the court once a year and make sure
that order is kept current! The parent not paying will have a very rude sur-
prise once those government checks kick in!
The Michigan Attorney General’s Officetargets deadbeat parents. The
Attorney General works with county prosecutors and generally targets
cases in which the offenders are living out of state and/or have large
delinquencies.
In Wayne County:
Generally, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Felony Non-Support Unit may
get involved if the arrears exceed $5,000, civil enforcement has failed &
the offending parents still live in MI. Call the office at 313-224-0465.
In Oakland County:
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office Family Support Division issues
about 100 warrants each year for deadbeat parents. Call the office at 248-
858-5620.
In Macomb County:
The Assistant Macomb County Prosecutor handles 3-6 felony non-support
cases a week. The process starts with the County’s Friend of the Court sys-
tem at 586-469-7618.

OCSE is the federal government agency that oversees the national
child support program. We help child support agencies in states &
tribes develop, manage, and operate their programs according to
federal law using effective child support enforcement tools. OCSE
does not provide services directly to families. We partner with state,
tribal and local child support agencies and others to encourage par-
ental responsibility so that children receive financial, emotional, and
