CLIENTS SERVED: Low-income residents and households
DESCRIPTION: Provides assistance with basic needs, energy costs, food, transportation, home weatherization and repairs, senior services, youth activities, and other programs designed to help individuals and families address financial hardship and become more self-sufficient.
PROGRAMS/SERVICES:
- Food Assistance: Food pantry, TEFAP emergency food distributions, and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program for income-eligible adults age 60 and older.
- Energy Assistance: Assistance with fuel, water and sewer bills, energy costs, and certain energy-efficient furnace or water-heater replacements.
- Home Repair & Safety: Furnace and chimney cleaning with minor repairs, limited minor home and plumbing repairs.
- Weatherization: Free energy-efficiency and health-and-safety improvements for qualifying homeowners and renters, including insulation, weather-stripping, air-leakage testing, and combustion-appliance testing.
- Transportation: Door-to-door bus service and scheduled transportation between communities in the three-county area and Houghton/Hancock.
- In-Home Services: Home care, homemaker assistance, and respite care for eligible older adults and people with disabilities in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. A medical referral is required for Home and Respite Care.
- Senior Services: Monthly food assistance through CSFP and in-home support services.
- Youth Recreation & Education: Up to $200 per eligible child for approved recreational or educational activities, with a limit of two children per family.
- Tax Assistance: Income tax filing and credit assistance.
- Diaper Assistance: Diaper programs for eligible families in need.
- Other Assistance: Community Action may have additional emergency or supportive programs depending on current needs and funding.

- Keweenaw Handicraft Shop: Visit the shop during seasonal hours of 11:00 AM–5:00 PM, 7 days a week, or call 906-482-5528 for current hours.
