NEIGHBORHOOD CATS
Feral cats are too-often forgotten. Our goal is to make life better for community cats locally and throughout the United States.
Most feral cats are considered unadoptable if they make it to a shelter and they tend to end up euthanized. This nonprofit organization, founded in New York City in 1999, pioneered methods used around the world today to neuter and vaccinate feral cat populations and has helped spare the lives of thousands of street cats.
The group designed the first commercially available drop trap, and it helps beginner trappers pair up with experienced mentors to start catching and treating feral animals in their communities. In the winter, it distributes insulated cat shelters to volunteers in low-income areas.
We co-designed the first commercially available drop trap as well as what is now the most popular regular box trap for cats. Cat Stats, an online colony database, was created by us and is in use in communities throughout North America. We are always looking for better ways to get things done and then finding them and sharing them with the field.
Currently serves New York City, New Jersey and Maui, Hawaii. Also provides advice and assistance to similar programs in Indonesia, Kenya, and Australia.Â
