CLIENTS SERVED: Detroit and Southeast Michigan residents, community organizations, DIYers, homeowners, and people interested in hands-on skills and projects.

DESCRIPTION: Provides free access to tools, workspace, community meeting space, and hands-on learning opportunities to help people complete home, neighborhood, and creative projects and develop practical skills.

PROGRAMS/SERVICES:

• Tool Lending Library: Borrow hand tools, power tools, landscaping and gardening equipment, and other project tools, with the option to extend the loan for an additional week if needed. Borrowers must be 18 or older, and the tools are intended for personal projects rather than commercial/contract work.
• Community Meeting Space: Free community rooms and flexible workspace available for local organizations to use for meetings, training, workshops, and other gatherings.
• DIY Workshops & Classes: Free hands-on classes covering practical skills such as drywall, plumbing and PEX, nailers and compressors, soldering, gardening, and other DIY projects.
• DIY Demonstration Space: Workspace with workstations and access to the Tool Bench for workshops requiring hands-on instruction and practice.
• Community Partnerships: Supports Detroit-area organizations and community initiatives through workshops, resources, space, and other partnerships.

HOW TO ACCESS SERVICES:

• Tool Lending Library: Browse the listings at the Tool Library and create an account through the online Tool Bench/myTurn system. Then you are able to reserve an available tool, complete the required New User Orientation, and pick up the tool at the Workshop.
• Community Rooms: Reserve the free community space in advance through the Carhartt Workshop scheduling page.
• Workshops & Classes: First come, first served basis, no registration necessary or available. Visit the Workshop listings, show up to the Carhartt Workshop on the day of the class, sign-in, and claim your place.
