STATUS: Waitlist
SERVICE AREA: United States
CLIENTS SERVED: Pet owners experiencing financial hardship who have dogs, cats, or other domestic household pets diagnosed with chronic medical conditions requiring long-term or lifelong prescription medications or prescription food.
DESCRIPTION: The Bobo Fund is a nonprofit organization that provides temporary financial assistance as a one-time grant to help pet owners afford prescription medications and therapeutic diets for pets with chronic illnesses. The grant is paid directly to veterinary providers or approved pharmacies. Applicants must contribute toward their pets’ medical expenses and demonstrate financial hardship.
Assistance does not cover veterinary examinations, emergency treatment, surgeries, dental procedures, cancer treatment, routine preventatives, or previously purchased medications and food. Some medications may qualify when prescribed specifically for a chronic condition.
PROGRAMS/SERVICES:
- Prescription Medication Assistance: One-time financial assistance for medications prescribed to treat chronic conditions, including diabetes, Cushing’s disease, Addison’s disease, thyroid disorders, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, chronic eye conditions, arthritis, and certain skin allergies.
- Prescription Pet Food: Assistance purchasing veterinary-prescribed diets for chronic conditions such as kidney disease, liver disease, and urinary disorders.
- Financial Assistance Grants: Provides up to $150 for one pet and potentially an additional $100 for a second eligible pet, with a maximum of $250 per household, subject to available funding. Assistance is generally intended to cover 30–90 days of medication or prescription food, rather than ongoing expenses.
- Pet Care Resource Referrals: Maintains an Additional Resources Directory listing other veterinary assistance programs, payment plans, pet food pantries, low-cost clinics, and pet care resources.
HOW TO APPLY: Complete the Financial Aid Interest Form to join the waitlist. When funding becomes available, applicants receive an email invitation to complete an eligibility screening. If they pass the screening, they will then receive a full application within 48–72 hours. Applicants must provide proof of financial hardship, information about their pet’s chronic medical condition, and prescription details. They must respond within five business days to accept assistance. Applications are accepted only once per household. Email info@thebobofund.org with questions.
