The first step to receive assistance is to apply for State Emergency Relief (SER) assistance at MI Bridges. BWCA has navigators that are able to navigate them through the process of application and creating an account if they require it. Applying for State Emergency Relief ensures that you are maximizing the amount of assistance possible. Additional Information: Applicant must be a St. Clair County resident and must meet current income guidelines / Applicant must provide shut-off or past due notice from their utility provider / Applicant must provide the State Emergency Relief or Denial Letter dated within the last 30 days / Other program guidelines may apply.
Blue Water Community Action provides Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for low-income families. Certified VITA volunteers will be preparing free Federal and State tax return preparation for eligible families and individuals that meet the current poverty income limits. The returns are prepared using Internal Revenue Service approved online tax return preparation software and are also e-filed FREE OF CHARGE. VITA volunteers at BWCA will be able to help eligible households prepare 1040EZ, 1040A and 1040 returns without itemizations.
Families with children ages 17 and younger may be eligible to claim Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC). These credits could boost household yearly incomes by as much as $7,430. Families using the free VITA tax preparation services could save over $250 in fees.
