CLIENTS SERVED: Detroit individuals and families who need support. Individual programs may have additional requirements or limited availability.
DESCRIPTION: Auntie Na’s Village provides day-to-day support for Detroit families through several neighborhood programs, seasonal warming/cooling center services and community events.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:
- Nutrition Program: Free food boxes Fridays 2–5 p.m. and Saturdays 12–2 p.m. Emergency food boxes are also available during the week. A pet pantry provides pet food.
- Emergency Housing: Temporary emergency shelter for individuals and families throughout the year. Availability is limited, so people should call first.
- Warming/Cooling Center: Daytime warming center services during winter. Cooling center access during hot weather for seniors and people with medical conditions.
- Community Closet: Free clothing Monday–Friday 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and Saturday 12–3 p.m.
- Medical Services: Wayne State University School of Medicine volunteers provide blood-pressure checks and basic first aid. Hygiene kits and public-health supplies are also available.
- Community Garden & Orchard: Produces fresh vegetables and fruit for the community.
- Youth Activities: Summer activities, employment opportunities, and tutoring (when college volunteers are present).
- Community Events/Bazaars: Periodic events offering free clothing, hygiene supplies, pet food, toys, bikes, household goods, meals, and children’s activities.
HOW TO APPLY: Call 313-808-8940 before visiting to ask about current availability, especially for emergency housing and food assistance. Current visiting hours are Monday – Friday, 10 am – 5 pm and Saturday 12 – 5 pm.
