DEAD, DANGEROUS AND DISEASED TREE PROGRAM / DETROIT
NOTE: If you have a tree fall on your property, please call the City of Detroit’s EMERGENCY FORESTRY PHONE NUMBER is 313-590-3336. This phone is manned 24 / 7.
Program Overview:
The City of Detroit launched the Dead, Dangerous, and Diseased Tree Program to help residents safely remove or trim trees on their private property that are dead, damaged, or diseased, with no charge to the homeowner. While the city has always maintained trees between sidewalks and streets, this initiative specifically assists residents with trees on their private property.
How to Apply:
Residents can submit a request online through the Detroit Department of Neighborhoods website or call 313-224-4444 for assistance. After submission, a tree inspector evaluates the tree to determine if it qualifies as dead, dangerous, or diseased. If approved, the city schedules a contractor to perform the trimming or removal, with work expected to begin during the summer months.
Additional Services:
The city’s forestry crews also handle trees on city property, including those blocking streets, sidewalks, or posing hazards to homes and vehicles. Residents can request tree planting or report tree issues through the city’s online forms.’
