SERVICE AREA: Detroit East Side and Highland Park. The Whole Homes, Whole Communities Program currently focuses on eligible residents in Detroit ZIP codes 48203 and 48214 and Highland Park.

CLIENTS SERVED: Low-income homeowners and renters, with particular attention to children, seniors, people with disabilities, and Veterans.

DESCRIPTION: We Want Green Too! is a grassroots, community-led nonprofit focused on healthy, energy-efficient housing, environmental justice, and opportunities for Veterans and underserved residents. Its current housing programs provide home assessments, repairs, hazard reduction, energy-efficiency improvements, and homeowner education.

SERVICES / PROGRAMS:

• Whole Homes, Whole Communities: Provides home assessments, repairs, energy-efficiency improvements, clean-energy education, and homeowner education for eligible Detroit and Highland Park residents. Improvements may include insulation, air sealing, energy-efficient appliances, and heating/cooling improvements.
• Healthy Home Production Program: Provides free home assessments and assistance addressing health and safety hazards such as lead, mold, poor indoor air quality, and other environmental hazards. Services may include lead assessments, lead abatement, and other hazard remediation. The current program focuses on East Detroit (48214) and Highland Park and is particularly intended to protect children, seniors, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable residents.
• ICAN Workforce Development: Provides green-building and workforce development opportunities, including training for careers related to energy efficiency and building analysis.

HOW TO APPLY:
Complete the appropriate program interest form to be screened for available programs. There is no deadline for the current Healthy Homes or Whole Homes programs. Applications are accepted year-round, and a program representative will contact eligible applicants to discuss next steps. If an applicant does not qualify for one program, We Want Green Too states that it will try to connect them with other available resources.
