SERVICE AREA: Primarily the McDougall-Hunt and Poletown East neighborhoods of Detroit. Some programs and neighborhood-support activities extend to residents and community organizations throughout Detroit. Individual programs may have additional geographic or eligibility requirements.
CLIENTS SERVED: Detroit residents, neighborhood associations, block clubs, and community organizations of McDougall-Hunt and Poletown East. Some services are available to the wider Detroit residential area.
DESCRIPTION: Bailey Park Neighborhood Development Corporation is a community development organization focused on resident-led neighborhood revitalization, housing stability, community resources, workforce development, youth programs, green space, and neighborhood beautification. Its work began in McDougall-Hunt and includes both direct services and partnerships with other organizations and City of Detroit programs.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:
- Housing Stability & Preservation: Helps low- to moderate-income homeowners access resources for home repairs, energy improvements, property-tax assistance, and housing stability.
- Minor Home Repair: Critical repairs may include furnace and water heater repairs, roofing, doors, windows, steps, plumbing, and electrical improvements.
- DTE Energy Efficiency Assistance: Connects eligible residents with no-cost energy improvements such as insulation, air sealing, LED lighting, and ENERGY STAR® appliances.
- HOPE Property Tax Assistance: Helps income-qualified Detroit homeowners apply for the City’s HOPE property-tax exemption program.
- Community Resilience Hub: The Hub provides food and basic-needs assistance, housing information, workforce resources, senior and youth programming, health resources, educational support, and other community services.
- Neighborhood Revitalization & Beautification: Landscaping, mowing, tree planting, garden installation, vacant-lot improvements, brush/tree removal, senior lawn care, and community cleanups.
- Tool Lending Library: As a City of Detroit Tool Lending Library partner, BPNDC provides access to free landscaping and maintenance tools for residents, block clubs, and community groups, along with training and guidance.
- Workforce Readiness: Job-readiness training, resume and interview assistance, career exploration, financial literacy, and employment support for youth, adults, and returning citizens.
- Youth Development: Mentoring, leadership development, civic engagement, career training, and paid summer employment opportunities through Grow Detroit’s Young Talent.
- Innovation Lab: Free computer and digital-literacy classes for youth, adults, and seniors, along with periodic distribution of free computers.
- Affordable Housing Development: Works with partners to develop affordable rental and homeownership opportunities, including senior-friendly housing.
- Resident Advisory Committee: Gives McDougall-Hunt residents a role in addressing housing stability, public safety, vacant land, infrastructure, climate resilience, and neighborhood priorities.
