SERVICE AREA: Macomb and St. Clair Counties
CLIENTS SERVED: Low-income, unemployed adults age 55 and older who meet SCSEP eligibility requirements and have limited employment prospects.
DESCRIPTION: Administered through Michigan Works!, the SCSEP is a federally funded, community service and work-based training program that helps older adults gain current job skills and prepare for unsubsidized employment. Participants receive training through a temporary placement with a public or nonprofit organization while working toward a regular paid job.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:
- Community Service Training: Participants are placed with a public agency or nonprofit organization where they perform community service work & develop current workplace skills.
- Employment Preparation: Participants work with a Career Planner to develop an Individual Employment Plan and receive assistance preparing for unsubsidized employment.
- Paid Training Assignment: SCSEP provides a limited, part-time training assignment with a stipend. The placement is considered training rather than regular employment and is time-limited.
- Job Search Support: Participants are required to actively seek unsubsidized employment and work toward transitioning into regular employment.
- Job Seeker Survey: Helps identify programs and no-cost services for which an individual may qualify.
