STATUS:Â Open
CLIENTS SERVED: Veterans & active-duty service members
DESCRIPTION: AAFPRS FACES OF HONOR is a humanitarian initiative of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) Foundation that provides pro-bono medical and surgical expertise to U.S. military service members and veterans with war‑related facial, head, or neck injuries
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:Â Some veterans may have already received treatment in a military hospital while on active duty and may have been discharged. Our volunteer surgeons are offering to help compliment the care that these facilities and medical staff provide, but we are not trying to compete with them. We want to help eligible veterans find a qualified surgeon with the best matched skills, and hopefully in a fairly convenient location.
Those eligible include: Veterans of the U.S. military with war‑related injuries (combat or combat‑related/support activities) / Active-duty or active reserve members (including National Guard/Reserve) deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) / Members of U.S. Armed Forces or eligible NATO/coalition forces
HOW TO APPLY:Â Complete the FACES OF HONOR form online and submit it (or fax) to a participating surgeon in your area
Select a surgeon via the AAFPRS database, based on proximity or convenience; staff can help match you to the right specialist / Submit required documentation with your application (see the website for this) /Authorize release of medical records and submit / The program will coordinate with the chosen surgeon to arrange care
