HOME HELP SERVICES
For Medicaid recipients who need hands-on care and want to live independently:
Website:Â www.Michigan.gov/homehelp
The Home Help program is designed to support individuals who wish to live independently in their home rather than live in an adult foster care home, home for the aged, or nursing facility.
&
If you are a caregiver or someone needing assistance, go to www.Michigan.gov/homehelp or reach the Adult Services unit at your county MDHHS office at www.Michigan.com/contact-MDHHS.Contact your local Area Agency on Aging for information on other programs that may be able to help, including the My Choice Waiver, or for referral to individual condition-specific organizations.
&
PACE Southeast Michigan, which offers participant caregiver respite, can be reached at www.pacesemi.org. The Veterans Administration also offers programs for caregiver support at www.caregiver.va.
A.A.R.P. RESOURCES
Some government resources are available for lower-income families. In about one-third of states, people who are eligible to receiveÂ
in-home services under Medicaid can direct their own care and may have the option to hire family members to provide assistance. Â
&
The remaining states may have programs of their own.  In some communities across the U.S., veterans who are at-risk of nursing-home placement can enroll in the Veteran-Directed Home and Community BasedServices Program, which allows veterans to manage their own care, including hiring & paying their own caregivers. Â
&
To find out if these programs are available in your community, contact:Â
Eldercare Locator
Phone: 800-677-1116
Website:Â https://eldercare.acl.gov/Public/index.aspx
This site, run by the U.S. Administration on Aging can steer you to adult day programs, financial and legal assistance, housing opt-ions, in-home services and more!Â
&
For more ideas, take a look at AARP’s Caregiving ResourceCenter at https://www.aarp.org/home family/caregiving/?cmp=RDRCT-CRGVER_APR12_012
VETERANS
Veterans who have served during wartime (V.A. eligible) are entitled to FREE respitecare each year!
&
If the Veteran is at home, they are entitled of up to 30 HOURS a year which may be taken in any increments during that calendar year.
&
If the Veteran is in a nursing home, they are entitled to 30 DAYS each year. Â
&
To apply call 734-769-7100. If you do not have a copy of your discharge papers, they can be obtained at www.va.gov in 7 to 10 days.
