A MISSION OF KINDNESS
Find the need. Fill it with kindness.
We’re a volunteer-driven, grassroots initiative extending a loving, supportive hand to the Detroit Jewish community whenever, wherever, and for whomever it’s needed. Detroit Chesed Project (DCP) provides support to members of the Detroit Jewish Community through our various divisions & special projects.
Tomchei Shabbos: Shabbos and holiday food packages for Jewish families
Lunches with Love:Â Nutritious meals for children and families facing food insecurity
Kallah packages are filled with must have items for every young couple to start their home with dignity. Utilizing a storefront setting in our Southfield location, we provide varied and brand-new merchandise, including kitchen goods, linens, showerheads, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers and other small appliances. Community members are able to visit the HOME GOODS gemach by appointment. Up to fifty people visit the home goods gemach each week, ensuring their families are provided with necessary and important goods.
The Spot:Â Our daily after-school respite program is a lifesaver for special-needs children and their families. Our Spot kids enjoy safe, fun activities while their parents get some much-needed time to focus on the rest of their families. Our daily three-hour program provides a fun and safe environment for its participants, as well as a hot dinner. It also frees parents up to concentrate on the other children in their family. In that time, parents can provide homework assistance, create a calm and relaxed dinner environment, and be better prepared to face the evening and bedtime routines.
Tutoring: Educational support through the Dr. Burg Memorial Fund
Special Projects:Â Back-to-school supplies, holiday assistance, and seasonal support
