
Benefits Access Counseling:
MiCAFE, or Michigan’s Coordinated Access to Food for the Elderly, helps individuals apply for benefits that meet their basic needs including utilities, food, housing, medical assistance, and prescription drugs. Application assistance is available in person and over the telephone and is primarily for people age 60 and older. We also provide nutrition education, food preparation tips, and much more.

Person-Centered Options Counseling
PCOC, or Elder Law of Michigan’s Person-Centered Options Counseling, through a grant awarded by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services can provide the following services for residents in Genesee and Lapeer Counties:
1. An interactive decision-support process that helps people assess and understand their LTSS needs, goals, and preferences via the Person-Centered Options Counseling (PCOC),
2. Counseling, and information assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their families and caregivers on Medicare and other health insurance issues via the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), and
3. Education and application assistance that helps Medicare beneficiaries with limited income and assets learn about programs that may save them money on their Medicare costs via the Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) program.
