The City of Detroit is helping to ease the financial burden for senior citizens homeowners. The Sheffield administration has opened an early application period for the Senior Citizen Solid Waste Discount to allow seniors to apply EARLY so the discount can be reflected on summer property tax bills. Seniors can apply TODAY thru April 15th, to make sure the 50% off garbage fee is reflected on the summer property tax bill.

Applications are also accepted July 1st thru September 15th.  If mailed, must be postmarked by Sept. 15th.

SPECIAL NOTE: If you were approved for the solid waste discount beginning in 2017 or later, you do NOT need to reapply if you still own and occupy your home. NO INCOME LIMITS! Residents must be at least 65 years old. Residents must provide a copy of their photo ID (front & back) such as Driver’s License or State ID. Applicants must be listed on the tax roll with the City.
