The Supportive Housing Program (SHP) is a two-year rental program designed to help home-
less & disabled individuals become self-sufficient. SHP is a scattered site housing, meaning
that once chosen for the program clients are able to choose their own housing. Qualifications for SHP are to be certifiably homeless as well as be medically considered disabled by a physician. Those who qualify must be homeless, medically disabled and a Monroe County resident.
Depending on qualification, the Rental Assistance Program can help with up to 3 months of rent. Several guidelines apply for those who qualify. It is required for individuals to fill out a
State of Emergency Relief (SER) form through the Department of Human Services (DHS), then receive a decision notice. Individuals must have proof of income to show sustainability as well as a late notice or eviction notice.
Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) is a program that offers housing assistance to low-income veterans to prevent eviction and to assist homeless veterans moving into an apartment. Those who qualify also will receive case management, access to personal financial planning, health care referrals, and benefits assistance.
