Through its confidential hotline and online resources (live chat, email, and forum), the National Runaway Safeline offers runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth 24/7 support & resources needed to improve their situations. Resources include judgment-free support, facilitated conference calls, a message service, and access to a database of over 6,000 services, including local shelters, transitional housing, counseling, alcohol/drug treatment, child protective services, and much more.
One resource of note is the organization’s “Home Free” program, in partnership with Greyhound Lines, Inc. Home Free helps youth to reunite with their families, or to travel
to an alternate living arrangement through a free bus ticket. Over 17,000 youth ages
12-21 have participated in the program since its inception in 1995. Interested in Home
Free? Call NRS at 1-800-RUNAWAY to initiate the process and learn more details.
