In Oakland and Washtenaw counties, Synod operates 11 licensed specialized residences
for vulnerable adults in need of around-the-clock staff support. While each program serves
a unique group with individual needs, in every program support and safeguarding are built
on practices that first empower clients. Without this unifying principle safety may be experienced at the expense of self-determination and other prized qualities of life.
Described as community housing plus sites, these programs offer shared housing where
staff are available to assist clients with the tasks of daily living and to help them progress
toward greater independence. Services include: therapeutic direct care, meal preparation
and nutrition assistance, transportation and transportation training, prescription management, health care assistance, personal growth and skill support. In addition case management and treatment services are provided by the core service agency for that geographic
area.
