YWCA Interim House, a program of the YWCA of Metropolitan Detroit, first opened its doors in 1979, becoming one the first and largest shelters in MI.

Offers the following:
1. 24-hour crisis help line services
2. Emergency temporary shelter
3. Food and clothing
4. Individual, family and children and group counseling
5. Residential and non-residential support groups; case management
6. Legal advocacy referrals
7. Sexual assault advocacy referrals
8. Childcare services
9. Transportation and many other community referrals (legal, financial assistance, medical services and transitional & permanent housing)

Many referrals have qualification guidelines. These services are offered in a 67-bed facility to women and children survivors in a safe, comfortable and supportive environment. The average length of stay ranges from 30 to 60 days with varying circumstances. The YWCA Interim House’s Mission is to empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault by helping them to realize the ability to control their lives. The YWCA Interim House’s goal is to help every woman and child recover from the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault  by providing safety options for building healthy relationships.

Personal Protection Orders:
As part of a collaborative agreement between the City of Detroit Police Department (DPD) – 2nd and 4th Precincts, and the Wayne County Prosecutors’ Office, a YWCA victim advocates is located in each precinct to provide assistance with personal protection orders PPO) and court issues.

Victim advocates provide assistance with PPO filings, court accompaniment, safety planning options, efforts to hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes, increase survivor’s understanding and knowledge of the criminal justice system, provide victim advocacy, outreach and supportive services, improve efforts to elevate victim/survivor confidence and to ensure victims/survivors that the community cares.
