ALS of Michigan supports Michigans pALS (individuals living with ALS) through several programs including:

Speech Language-Language Pathology:
Provides Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT) services to help people living with ALS maintain communication and independence. Services include evaluations, training, voice banking, speech-generating devices, communication tools, and technology solutions tailored to individual needs. Equipment Loan Closet:
Available free of charge to all Michigan pALS. Durable equipment for loan includes ramps, lifts, wheelchairs, communication devices, & more. They also accept donations of clean and working equipment that is new or used. Items that cannot be accepted include cough assist or BiPAP machines, beds, shower chairs, or commodes.

In-Home Care Assistance Program:
Provides up to $500 per month to help eligible individuals living with ALS access professional in-home care services. The program supports daily care needs while also providing respite for family caregivers.

Special Wish Program: The Albert Burstein Wish Fund awards pALS a one-time grant of $2,500 to help fulfill a wish that would make their lives more meaningful. Awards are made quarterly each year.

Support Groups: Provides support for pALS, their family members, caregivers and others. Visit https://alsofmichigan.org/mec-category/support-groups/ for a schedule.

Thomas E. Worford, Jr. Transportation Program:
Reimburses expenses for suitable transportation for pALs who can no longer drive or need wheelchair-accessible transport to non-medical appointments, family gatherings, community events, vacations or other excursions. Michigan pALS are eligible to be reimbursed $300 each year for expenses related to independent companies.
