CLIENTS SERVED: Children and families in need of a bed, with priority given to families navigating foster-care, homelessness, and starting over.

DESCRIPTION: Building Beds 4 Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that builds and provides basic twin beds to children. The beds are provided at no cost to families and generally include the bed frame, mattress, and bedding. Bed requests and distribution are managed through churches, agencies, community organizations, and other distribution partners.

SERVICES / PROGRAMS:

• Bed Program: Provides a basic twin-size wooden bed frame, twin mattress, OSB board used in place of a box spring, and a sheet and pillowcase set. When available, pillows, blankets, and comforters may also be provided.
• Bed Delivery: Families who can arrange transportation may pick up beds from the organization’s Oak Park facility. If transportation is not available, the distribution partner arranges transportation, sometimes with assistance from bed-delivery volunteers.

HOW TO APPLY: Families generally do not apply directly to Building Beds 4 Kids and would need to contact a distribution partner. Contact your local church, social services agency, or other appropriate referring organization and ask if they are a partner or can contact Building Beds 4 Kids to help a family obtain a bed.
