The National Institute on Drug Abuse suggests that approximately half of all individuals serving a prison
sentence abuse or are addicted to drugs. We know that community-based support promotes recovery and
reduces recidivism. By initiating treatment for substance use while a person is still incarcerated and continuing to offer services as they reintegrate into the community, we can increase the likelihood of positive treatment outcomes.
