CLIENTS SERVED: Low- to moderate-income Detroit residents purchasing a 1–2 unit home as their primary residence.

DESCRIPTION: Provides grants of up to $25,000 to help eligible Detroit residents with down payment and home purchase costs. Applicants must be first-time homebuyers or have not owned a home within the previous three years, have lived in Detroit for at least 12 months, meet the program’s income requirements (up to 80% of HUD Area Median Income), contribute at least $1,000 toward the purchase, complete an approved homebuyer education course, and purchase and occupy an eligible 1–2 unit property in Detroit as their primary residence. Special priority is given to eligible households affected by the August 2023 flooding and individuals who lost a Detroit home through property-tax foreclosure between 2010 and 2016.

PROGRAMS/SERVICES:

Down Payment Assistance: Grant of up to $25,000 toward the purchase of an eligible Detroit home. Assistance may be used for eligible closing costs and prepaid expenses, reduction of the mortgage interest rate (when permitted by program guidelines) and mortgage principal reduction. Assistance may also be combined with an eligible purchase renovation mortgage.
