CLIENTS SERVED: Detroit residents, community organizations, businesses, and City departments

DESCRIPTION: Maintains and improves Detroit’s public spaces, City-owned properties, parks, recreation centers, trees, vacant lots, and municipal vehicle fleet. The department also supports neighborhood beautification, greenways, and other projects that help keep Detroit clean, safe, and vibrant.

PROGRAMS/SERVICES:

• Parks & Recreation: Plans, designs, improves, maintains, and programs City parks and recreation centers.
• Forestry & Trees: Provides tree related services, including reporting tree problems and requesting a tree to be planted in a neighborhood.
• Vacant Lot Maintenance: Maintains City-owned vacant lots and provides information about upcoming lot-cutting schedules.
• City-Owned Buildings: Maintains City-owned buildings and facilities.
• Fleet Services: Manages the City’s vehicle fleet.
• Greenways: Plans and develops public greenways, including the Joe Louis Greenway.
• Neighborhood Beautification: Supports efforts to remove blight and improve public spaces and neighborhood corridors.
• Keep Detroit Clean: Helps residents properly dispose of unwanted items, report illegal dumping, find free drop-off locations, and participate in neighborhood cleanup efforts.
• City Walls: Supports grants and projects that use murals and public art to help remove blight.
• Community Resources: Provides information and opportunities related to parks, trees, vacant lots, greenways, neighborhood improvements, and other public spaces.
