CLIENTS SERVED: Romulus residents age 55 and older.

DESCRIPTION: The City of Romulus Senior Services Department provides essential services, nutrition, transportation, health resources, chore assistance, and social and recreational activities for older adults. The Senior Center is open Monday through Friday, 8 am – 4 pm.

SERVICES / PROGRAMS:

• Meals on Wheels and congregate hot lunches.
• Monthly food and supplemental nutrition distributions, including Focus: HOPE and other food distributions.
• Free transportation for medical and personal appointments, plus weekly shopping trips to Meijer and Walmart.
• Medical equipment and supplies pantry, including gently used medical equipment.
• Health screenings, blood-pressure checks, health fairs, and health education.
• Medicare Part D counseling.
• Monthly caregiver support and grief support groups.
• Discounted hair salon services.
• Monthly legal consultations.
• Exercise, fitness, Tai Chi, games, crafts, clubs, outings, and other social activities.

HOW TO APPLY: Requirements and application procedures vary by service. Call the Senior Center 734-955-4120, Monday through Friday, 8 am – 4 pm, to ask about eligibility and current availability.

SPECIAL PROGRAM: CHORE SERVICES

Provides yard and snow-removal assistance at no charge to qualifying low- and moderate-income Romulus seniors age 60+ and physically challenged residents. Services may include grass cutting, weed trimming, leaf raking, and clearing ice and snow from walkways and driveways. The program is for owner-occupied, homesteaded primary residences and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis as funding and staffing allow. It is not a guaranteed or ongoing weekly maintenance service.

HOW TO APPLY: Complete the current Senior Chore Program application and submit it to the Romulus Senior Center. The City conducts income verification and accepts applications during Senior Center office hours. Home visits may be arranged for homebound seniors.
