DESCRIPTION: Community Action Agency provides programs designed to help individuals and families maintain stable housing and become more financially self-sufficient. Program eligibility varies by service, county, income, household circumstances, and available funding.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:
- Housing Assistance: Housing Resource Agency services in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties, including rapid rehousing, housing referrals, and assistance for people who are homeless, facing eviction or foreclosure, or need emergency housing. Lenawee County residents are directed to Housing Help of Lenawee.
- Homeowner Assistance: Housing counseling, foreclosure prevention, tax-foreclosure assistance, home maintenance education, utility assistance, weatherization, lead abatement, and homebuyer education in all 3 counties.
- Weatherization: Free home energy-conservation services for income-eligible homeowners and renters in all 3 counties.
- Utility Assistance: May assist with past-due gas, electric, water, and deliverable-fuel bills, depending on available funding in all 3 counties.
- Rental Assistance & Housing Stability: Helps eligible renters find stable housing, navigate rental assistance resources, and apply for available programs in all 3 counties.
- Veteran Housing Assistance: Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) helps eligible veterans and veteran families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with housing stability and access to benefits and other resources in all 3 counties.
- Homebuyer Assistance: Homebuyer education and assistance with purchasing a home, including financial preparation and counseling in all 3 counties.
- Financial Stability: Financial coaching, budgeting, credit counseling, financial stability classes, and related self-sufficiency programs in all 3 counties.
- Lead Abatement: Lead hazard reduction services for Lenawee and Hillsdale Counties.
- VITA: Free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in all 3 counties.
- Head Start / Early Head Start: Early childhood education and family support programs in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties.
- WIC: Women, Infants & Children nutrition assistance in Lenawee County.
