SERVICE AREA: Oakland County for direct Housing Resource Center services. Also Macomb, Wayne, and other areas of Michigan with other housing resources.
CLIENTS SERVED: Individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing instability, people at risk of eviction or homelessness, people with disabilities, low-income households, renters, and people seeking affordable housing or homeownership education.
DESCRIPTION: Community Housing Network is a nonprofit organization that helps people find and maintain safe, affordable housing. Its Housing Resource Center is a free starting point for people facing a housing problem and connects callers with CHN programs as well as other available community resources.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:
- Housing Resource Center: Free housing assessment and referral service. Specialists help identify affordable housing, subsidized housing, emergency housing resources, and programs that may help with a current housing crisis.
- Rapid Rehousing: Short- to medium-term rental assistance and housing case management for eligible people experiencing homelessness, including people fleeing domestic violence or human trafficking.
- Homeless Prevention: Short-term financial assistance and case management for eligible households at imminent risk of homelessness. Assistance may include rental arrears or relocation assistance.
- Permanent Supportive Housing: Long-term affordable housing with supportive services for people with disabilities who are experiencing homelessness. CHN currently provides this service in Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties, except Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park.
- Homeless Street Outreach (PATH): Outreach to people experiencing homelessness on the streets in Oakland and Macomb counties, connecting them with housing, health, benefits, and other services.
- Housing Resource Lists: CHN provides information on emergency shelters, subsidized housing, Housing Choice Voucher resources, and housing waitlists, including separate Oakland and Macomb County subsidized-housing lists.
- Homebuyer Education: Classes and individual education for people preparing to purchase a home.
- Rent Right: Free rental education covering tenant rights, housing affordability, rental issues, and housing discrimination.
- Financial Education: Money-management and post-homeownership education.
- Affordable Housing Development: CHN develops and manages affordable rental and supportive housing throughout Michigan.
- IDD Housing Access Pilot Program: Works to expand inclusive housing opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
