CLIENTS SERVED: Older adults 60+, adults with disabilities 18+, and caregivers residing in the service area. Eligibility varies by program.

The Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) is a nonprofit agency that helps older adults and adults with disabilities remain healthy, independent, and safely in their homes and communities. DAAA provides information and referrals as well as direct services related to nutrition, health and wellness, home care, long-term care, transportation, and caregiver support.

SERVICES & PROGRAMS:

• Caregiver Support: Resources and assistance for family caregivers, including information, referrals, and supportive services.
• Health & Wellness: Community Wellness Service Centers provide nutrition, health education, wellness activities, and other programs promoting healthy aging.
• Home-Based & Clinical Services: Includes care coordination, nursing services, telehealth, nursing-facility transition assistance, and other supports designed to help people remain in the community.
• Home Repair & Safety Assistance: Finds programs and community resources that may assist with minor home repairs or safety improvements to help seniors remain safely in their homes.
• Information & Assistance: Connects older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers with community resources, benefits, and supportive services.
• Long-Term Care Ombudsman: Advocacy and assistance for individuals experiencing concerns with long-term-care facilities.
• MI Choice Waiver: Home- and community-based services for Medicaid-eligible adults who meet nursing-facility level-of-care requirements and want to remain at home. Services may include environmental modifications, chore services, personal emergency response systems, medical equipment, home-delivered meals, transportation, respite, and personal care.
• MI Options: Call 800-803-7174 for free, unbiased Medicare and Medicaid counseling, including assistance with Medicare plans, prescription coverage, long-term care insurance, and fraud concerns.
• Non-Emergency Medical Transportation: The Information & Assistance program can connect eligible seniors and adults who have disabilities, with transportation resources for medical appointments and other necessary trips. MyRide2 includes wheelchair-accessible and door-to-door options. Availability and eligibility vary. Call 313-446-4444 for screening and referral.
• Nutrition Services: Provides access to nutritious meals and nutrition-related programs for older adults.
• Project Choice: Care management and supportive services for frail or disabled adults age 60+ who are at risk of entering a nursing facility, including chore services, home-delivered meals, transportation, home-care assistance, adult day care, and caregiver respite.
• Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP): Employment and training assistance for eligible older adults.
