The Disability Network Eastern Michigan is part of the Center for Independent Living (CIL) network by the Disability Network of Michigan.
Provides programs and services which are operated for people with disabilities by people with disabilities.
Services include:
- Advocacy: Emergency Preparedness Planning, Individual Advocacy to navigate systems & services, Individualized Education Program, Prevention of Elder Abuse / Neglect / Exploitation, School Transition Services, Smart 911 to help first responders assist quickly, Systems Advocacy at local / state / federal levels.
- Â Community Living Supports: Assistive Technology, Community Transition Services, Focus Hope Food Boxes, Information & Referral, Loan Closet, Mobile Outreach to communities, Peer Support, Residential Access Mobility Program (RAMP) to provide temporary ramps for no longer than 6 months, MI Options counseling to explore long-term care & support options, and the Stroke support group.
- Life Skills: American Sign Language training, Benefits Counseling & Planning, Independent Living Skills Training, Empowerment Training, Independent Living Skills Assessment, and a Pre-Employment Program.
- Recreation & Wellness adaptive activites: Cycling, Golf, Kayaking, DiversAbility Days, Art, Cooking, Exercise, monthly REC-IT Night with crafts / games / fun, Therapeutic Drumming, Virtual Game Night.
- Veteran Services: Computer Training, Support Coordination with the VA, Housing Stability
- Youth Services: 3 P’s to build self-esteem & empowerment, Job Readiness training, Life Skills to live independently, Money Matters, More Alike than Different empathy and disability awareness, RELAX to manage anger and cultivate healthy relationships, the 4th R to foster healthy relationships, Work FUNdamentals to teach soft skills for employment.
