DESCRIPTION:
Jefferson East, Inc. (JEI) is a HUD-approved housing counseling agency and community development organization. Its Housing Services team helps residents access home-repair, weatherization, energy-efficiency, property-tax, foreclosure-prevention, and other housing resources. JEI participates in home-repair programs and maintains a Home Repair Interest Form/waiting list for residents seeking assistance.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:
- Home Repair & Energy Efficiency: Connects eligible homeowners with home-repair and weatherization programs, including critical repairs and energy-efficiency improvements. Eligibility and available services depend on the program, funding, and home assessment.
- DTE Energy Efficiency Assistance: Helps eligible residents apply for DTE energy-efficiency assistance. Applicants need identification, proof of household income/public assistance, proof of homeownership, and their DTE account number.
- Property Tax & Foreclosure Assistance: Provides assistance with property tax including HOPE exemptions, payment plans, foreclosure prevention, and assessment appeals.
- Housing & Credit Counseling: Provides individual counseling, workshops, budgeting/debt assistance, credit counseling, and financial coaching.
- Homebuyer Counseling & Education: Provides education and counseling for individuals preparing to purchase a home.
- Asset Protection: Offers estate-planning and will workshops through its Detroit Housing Network partnership, including access to free estate-planning services for eligible residents.
