SHARP / KENTUCKY Statewide Hearing Aid Assistance and Reuse Program (SHARP)
What Is It? In an effort to provide an affordable option for Kentuckians with hearing impairments to acquire hearing aids, the KATS Network has established the Statewide Hearing Aid Assistance and Reuse Program (SHARP). Using a statewide network of Hearing Health Professionals, and Starkey, the goal of SHARP is to establish an effective model of hearing aid reuse.
How Does it Work? We will accept hearing aids of any age/condition. Donated hearing aids will be evaluated and either refurbished to like new condition (including 1 yr warranty) or used for parts. Refurbished hearing aids will be provided to individuals through a statewide network of participating Hearing Health Professionals. Recipients will be responsible for covering the cost of the Audiologists fees (exams, fittings, follow-ups, etc.).
How Do I Donate Hearing Aids? Simply contact the KATS Network at (800) 327-5287 to request a self-addressed stamped envelope, or you can drop off your old hearing aids at one of our participating collection centers (your Vocational Rehabilitation Office, Independent Living Center, or a KATS Network Regional AT Resource Center)
How Do I Get Hearing Aids? Traditionally, hearing aids can be acquired through various outlets, such as private insurance, Medicaid, Vocational Rehabilitation, KY Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs, Alternative Financing programs, Charitable organizations, etc. However, all of these
programs have limitations such as age, income, or employment. SHARP is the only hearing aid distribution program available in KY that is available to all ages, regardless of income level and/or employment status.
