CLIENTS SERVED: People with disabilities, older adults, and caregivers who need financing for accessibility modifications or assistive technology. Home ownership is not required for the dwelling modification program.
The Michigan Assistive Technology Loan Fund (MATLF) provides low-interest loans to help people obtain assistive technology and make dwelling modifications that promote independence and accessibility. Eligible Home Modifications & Equipment may include wheelchair ramps, stair lifts, porch lifts, vertical platform lifts, accessible bathrooms, roll-in showers, grab bars, widened doorways, accessible kitchens, and other modifications / equipment that improve accessibility, safety, and independence in the home.
SERVICES & PROGRAMS:
- Acce$$ Loan – Up to $2,500: Loans for accessibility modifications and other expenses that promote independence and financial resilience. Terms up to 24 months; 6% interest; no fees.
- Home Modification Loans for Accessibility (HMLA) – Up to $15,000: Loans for assistive technology and home accessibility modifications. Terms up to 120 months at 5% interest. The home does not have to be paid off.
- Michigan Assistive Technology Loan (MATL) – Up to $30,000: Financing for assistive technology through a partnership with Michigan State University Federal Credit Union. Current rate listed as 4.99% APR.
- Accessibility Modifications: Financing may be used for modifications that improve accessibility and independence in the home.
