CLIENTS SERVED: Low-income individuals and families, with specific programs serving homeowners, renters, seniors, people with disabilities, and any households needing housing, utility, food, transportation, or other assistance.
DESCRIPTION:
Monroe County Opportunity Program (MCOP) is Monroe County’s Community Action Agency providing support services to residents. For homeowners, MCOP offers several home-repair, rehabilitation, weatherization, accessibility, and home-maintenance programs. Available assistance depends on age, income, location, and type of repair needed.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:
- Emergency Repair Rehab Program: Provides one home-rehabilitation project. Eligible work may include roof repair/replacement, furnace repair/replacement, ductwork, and well repairs.
- Housing Rehabilitation – FIX Program: Through a partnership with the City of Monroe, provides assistance to address health, safety, accessibility, and housing-condition issues. Eligible repairs include electrical, plumbing, roofs, windows, porches and steps, furnaces/heating systems, lead remediation, structural issues, and removal of architectural barriers for people with disabilities. This program is no longer taking applications.
- Minor Home Repair: Assists Monroe County residents age 55+ with smaller home-maintenance and repair needs, including roof and floor repairs, minor furnace repairs, and doors.
- Weatherization Assistance Program: Provides no-cost energy conservation and related health-and-safety improvements. Services may include caulking and air sealing, insulation, thermostat installation, furnace or water-heater tune-up/replacement, refrigerator replacement, and lightbulb replacement. The program serves homeowners and renters in Monroe, Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale Counties.
- Home Chore Services: Assists Monroe County seniors age 60+ with maintenance tasks that improve safety, including minor carpentry, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, lawn mowing, snow removal, gutter cleaning, and installation of window air conditioners.
- Home Injury Control: Provides safety and accessibility items for seniors, including grab bars, bathtub rails, toilet-seat risers/rails, smoke alarms, handheld showers, safe lighting, and nonskid surfacing.
- Utility Assistance: When funding is available, provides assistance with electric, natural gas, propane and other deliverable fuels.
