DESCRIPTION: Renaissance of Hope is the community development corporation arm of Straight Gate Church. The program works with residents and community partners to strengthen the neighborhood through affordable housing development, home repair, workforce development, youth programming, health and wellness initiatives, community spaces, and neighborhood revitalization. The organization describes its overall focus as building greater health, wealth, and agency within the community.
SERVICES / PROGRAMS:
- Home Repair: Provides critical home repair assistance in 48204 through participation in the Detroit Home Repair Fund and DTE Energy Efficiency Assistance Program. Repairs focus on health and safety needs and may include furnaces, air-conditioning units, water heaters, and other critical home repairs. Eligibility is based on household income and/or participation in qualifying assistance programs.
- Affordable Housing Development: Develops &z supports single-family housing opportunities with a goal of transferring land and home ownership to current neighborhood residents.
- The Resource Hub: A planned opportunity center in the former Adlai Stevenson School that will bring together workforce development, childcare, health and wellness, youth programming, and community organizations. Workforce programs are planned to include culinary arts, medical assisting, chemical laboratory technology, and pharmacy technician training.
- Love Thy Neighborhood Park: Community recreation space at 10245 Monica featuring a basketball/flex court, life-size chess and checkers, seating, green space, and other activities.
- Neighborhood Revitalization: Works with residents and stakeholders on neighborhood planning, vacant-lot activation, community spaces, food access, housing, and other projects intended to strengthen the neighborhood.
