DESCRIPTION: Shriners Children’s (Formerly Shriners Hospitals for Children) is a nonprofit pediatric healthcare system providing specialized medical and surgical care for children. Its multidisciplinary teams treat a range of complex pediatric conditions, with specialties varying by location. The organization accepts most major insurance plans but provides care regardless of a family’s insurance status or ability to pay. Uninsured families and those experiencing financial hardship may qualify for financial assistance.
PROGRAMS/SERVICES:
- Pediatric Specialty Care: Provides specialized evaluation and treatment in areas such as orthopedics, burn care, cleft lip and palate, craniofacial conditions, pediatric rehabilitation and therapy, pediatric surgery, rheumatology, spinal conditions, and other complex pediatric conditions. Available specialties vary by location.
- Inpatient & Outpatient Care: Outpatient care is available at all Shriners Children’s locations, with inpatient hospitalization available at select locations according to the child’s medical needs.
- Rehabilitation & Therapy: Depending on location and condition, treatment may include physical, occupational and other rehabilitation therapies as part of the child’s care plan.
- Care Management & Social Services: Nurses and social workers help families coordinate appointments and follow-up care, navigate treatment, advocate for patient needs, and connect with appropriate community resources.
- Child & Family Support: Patient programs may include child life services, school and community re-entry assistance, camps, and other support for children and their families. Availability varies by location.
- Financial Assistance: Medical care is provided regardless of a family’s ability to pay or insurance status. Families may still be responsible for expenses such as transportation and lodging when other assistance is unavailable.
HOW TO ACCESS SERVICES:
- Make an Appointment: Parents and guardians can call 800-237-5055 or submit the Request an Appointment form. Be prepared to provide parent/guardian contact information, information about the child’s condition and diagnosis, treatment recommendations, relevant medical records, and insurance information (if applicable). A physician referral is not required to request an appointment.
- Urgent Care: Call 855-823-7855 rather than using the online form.
- Emergencies: Call 911.
