SERVICE AREA: Western Wayne County, including Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, Westland, Canton, Plymouth, Northville, Livonia, Garden City, and Redford. Participants must be willing to be housed and work in this area.

CLIENTS SERVED: Homeless families with at least one child under age 18. Participants must have income from employment, SSI, SSD, or child support and must be willing to participate in the program’s financial and social-work programming.

Journey to Housing is a nonprofit organization that helps homeless families move toward stable housing and self-sufficiency. The program provides housing assistance along with intensive financial and social-work support, including life-skills development and ongoing case management.

SERVICES & PROGRAMS:

• Housing Assistance: Helps qualifying homeless families obtain stable housing and works with landlords to help families overcome barriers such as poor credit or previous eviction.
• Case Management & Social Work: Participants receive ongoing support from social workers to address the circumstances that contributed to homelessness and work toward long-term stability.
• Financial & Life-Skills Support: Participants work on financial stability, life skills, employment, and other goals needed to become self-sufficient.
• Family Support: The program accompanies families throughout their transition from homelessness to independent living and connects them with additional resources as needed.
• Furniture & Household Support: Provides gently used furniture and household items to help participating families furnish their new homes.

ELIGIBILITY NOTE: Applicants must meet all of the program’s eligibility requirements, including being homeless, having qualifying income, having at least one child under 18 living with the participating parent(s), being willing to live and work in Western Wayne County, and participating in the program’s financial and social-work services. Referrals are accepted from Metro West St. Vincent de Paul conferences, community-based nonprofits, or through self-referral.
